Jodie Shupena-Soulodre B.Ed, B.Mus Ed, ARCT, RMT
Jodie has been teaching and studying piano for over twenty-five years. She began her piano studies as a young child growing up in Saskatoon. She attended the University of Saskatchewan where she studied piano with Bonnie Nicholson. She received both Bachelor of Music (in Music Education) and Bachelor of Education degrees. Jodie’s experience at the U of S provided her with a strong passion in techniques for teaching music to young children such as Orff and Kodaly. Jodie continued her piano studies in Regina starting in 2001 with Janice Denike. In 2003, Jodie received her ARCT certificate in piano performance and became a Registered Music Teacher (RMT).
Throughout her studies and since, Jodie has always taught piano lessons. For many years Jodie taught theory, history and prepared students for Royal Conservatory exams. More recently she has focused her studio on teaching a combination of traditional piano pedagogy (reading music, theory) and learning the language of music (playing by ear, composing, improvising). This second component builds on the foundation of early childhood music techniques that Jodie discovered in University.
Outside of piano, Jodie lives with her husband, Etienne, and two children, Isaac and Annie Rose. She has a strong interest in healthy eating and lifestyle.
